Ved: Recure Buff Chain Guide

Socket discipline for a non-numeric roguelite.

Buff Chains

The Steam page’s loudest claim is also the one that confuses new players: Ved: Recure uses nine core attributes and over 150 unique buffs that do not rely on standard numerical values. You still see numbers — Martyr damage 708, Lightning Mousetrap 2685, Frost lasting 2 seconds — but the identity of a buff is a trigger, a sticker, and a socket, not +12 percent Attack. This primer teaches the builder you actually click in the demo.

Use it beside the build planner and the buff tier list. Combat verbs are on the combat page.

The two screens

Draft screen. After a room you are shown three cards. A real demo offer included:

  • Sacrificial Explosion Sequence (rank III, Fire). Apply a Martyr Mark. On kill, deal 708 martyr damage to the nearest enemy. If that kill used a Fire buff, the martyr damage doubles.
  • Dance! Dance! Dance! (rank IV, Passive). Each normal attack hit can cause an explosion.
  • Land of Snow (Passive, Frost). Each basic attack hit inflicts 1 Frost. At 5 stacks the target Freezes for 2 seconds. Frost cannot be reapplied for 8 seconds after the thaw.

Buttons on that screen: View Buff, Give Up +150, Refresh −300. Currency in the corner showed a gold count and a second black-token count. Refresh is expensive; Give Up is how you leave a bad shop without going broke.

Deploy screen. Cards you keep are socketed on a board with Active / Passive tabs. Rows visible in the official screenshot:

SocketWhat it is for
Combo FinisherEnd-of-string spenders. Fire / explosion stickers in the demo shot.
Dash ATKSpends when you dash. Skull, lightning, fist.
Special ATKSpecial button. Snowflakes, iceberg, arrow.
Extra ATKOverflow offense.
DefenceBlock / defensive procs. Wings, flower, blast.
HurtOn-hit-taken or Hurt-condition cards. Shield, soda, music-note monster.

A selected card on that board was Lightning Mousetrap: place a lightning trap for 5 seconds; on trigger it deals 2685 damage. Flavor text: I gazed at the power outlet in the corner of the room. That sentence is the game’s joke and a reminder that cards are objects in the Recure facility, not abstract RPG gems.

Nine schools, demo-visible elements

SummerClip names nine attribute schools for the full game. The demo does not label all nine on one screen. What you can already see:

  • Fire / explosion / martyr. Sacrificial Explosion Sequence, Dance! Dance! Dance!, Combo Finisher fire stickers.
  • Frost / freeze. Land of Snow, Special ATK ice stickers. Frostelle’s name (霜色) strongly suggests she leans this school in the full roster, but that is a naming hint, not a demo kit.
  • Lightning. Lightning Mousetrap, Dash ATK lightning sticker.
  • Hurt / Negate. Patch language, not a colored sticker. June 2026 retuned when these chains fire. If a Hurt soda-can card used to pop on any damage and now needs a specific hit type, that is the patch.

Do not invent the other five school names. When the 21 Sep 2026 client lists them, the updates hub will catch up. Until then, draft as if Fire, Frost, and Lightning are the three you can actually synergize.

How to build a chain that fires

  1. Pick a trigger verb. Normal hits (Dance, Land of Snow), kills (Sacrificial Explosion), dashes, specials, blocks, or getting hit (Hurt).
  2. Put the card in the matching row. A Dash lightning card in Extra ATK is how people decide the game is random.
  3. Stack a doubling condition. Sacrificial Explosion Sequence literally doubles martyr damage if the kill used a Fire buff. That is a two-card minimum, not a single high-rank pickup.
  4. Respect cooldowns. Land of Snow’s 8-second Frost lockout after a freeze means you cannot drown a boss in permafrost. Plan a second school for the downtime.
  5. Leave Defence alive. A chain that only fills Combo Finisher dies to Amplifier’s arm.
  6. Re-read Negate / Hurt after June. Trigger text in your head from April may be wrong.

Rank roman numerals (I–IV) on stickers are not the same as the 150+ unique-buff count. A rank IV Dance card is still one unique buff. Chasing rank instead of trigger is how Refresh gets spammed.

Equipment is not a second chain

Plumy’s sheet shows numbered equipment tiles (headphones, flame, ghost, wing, gun) beside a Weapon header. Steam promises 50+ pieces with hidden traits that affect in-run buffs. The demo includes a slice of that system. Treat gear as a modifier on the chain you already deployed, not a replacement for sockets. If a hidden trait says it boosts Fire, that is an argument to stay on Sacrificial Explosion Sequence — not to empty Hurt.

Meta progression between runs exists in partial form in the demo. Do not expect a full city builder. Expect a few persistent unlocks so the second Chapter 1 attempt is not identical. Details will move when the paid client ships; track them on patch notes.

Common failure modes

  • Mixing Frost freeze with Fire martyr without a plan for the 8-second lockout.
  • Refreshing three times because none of the cards were rank IV.
  • Ignoring Passive versus Active tabs and wondering why a Passive never shows a Deploy highlight.
  • Copying a Boss Rush chain (free picks, no draft economy) into Chapter 1, then going broke on Refresh.

Boss Rush is the sandbox. Chapter 1 is the budget. The demo walkthrough explains when to use each. For ranked opinions on cards, use the buff tier list and remember it is a demo snapshot, not a live patch bible.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are buffs really non-numeric if I see 2685 damage on Lightning Mousetrap?

The trigger and socket are the identity. The number is a consequence. You cannot replace Land of Snow with +12 Attack and get the same freeze.

What does Refresh cost?

300 of the secondary token on the demo draft screen. Give Up returns 150. Spend Refresh only when all three cards break your theme.

Where did Negate go on the board screenshot?

The visible rows are Combo Finisher, Dash ATK, Special ATK, Extra ATK, Defence, and Hurt. Negate is discussed in June patch notes as a chain trigger. Check in-game after you install.

How many buffs are in the full game versus the demo?

Demo: 35. Full pitch: 150+. Nine schools either way. See the tier list hub for how we rank the 35 we can actually read.
